Role description:

Scope

To ensure that service users receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care. To work with and alongside the nursing and caring staff whilst on duty and to act as ambassador for Benridge Care Group.

Key Responsibilities & Duties 

Clinical

Support the care manager/floor manager in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the service user and in accordance with instructions and training received.

To assist service users with all aspects of their personal care needs.

To provide cover at any of the groups homes ensuring adequate staff numbers are on duty. You will be required to float between care homes in the performance of the night manager duties to complete spot checks, observations etc.

To be responsible during an emergency to supervise and support care staff/service user’s, ensuring appropriate assistance is summoned to meet the needs of the emergency. 

To assist with the re-assessment of a service user’s needs and re-evaluation of their individualised care plan – adapting and prioritising planned care appropriately.

Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the service user/relatives and carers.

Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the service users care plan/ and or other reports and the effectiveness of the established communication /reporting system over the full 24hrs.

Undertake tasks and procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the care environment, including for example blood glucose monitoring.

Provide support and assistance to staff. Completing observation’s of staff performance, having input for appraisals of night care staff.   

All team members are responsible for behaving in a manner that does not put themselves, service users, visitors and other team members in danger or at risk in the care/clinical environment.

To assist in the maintenance of cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.

To assist the service user’s to ensure they have the opportunity to meet their individual dietary requirements. Ensuring all service user’s receive their chosen and correct meals.

To receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the home are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.

To assist and support registered manager/care manager, floor managers and clerical staff in administrative duties as required.

To promote effective communication within the client’ stream and that within Benridge Care Group.

Adhere to the client’s and Nursing and Midwifery Council’s medication procedures. 

Managerial – (Seniors when in charge of a shift)

Ensure effective and efficient use of the client’s resources.

Provide leadership to all members of staff, promoting effective teamwork, whilst maintaining a positive approach to achievement within the team.

Where required by the client, be responsible to ensure that the premises have the appropriate numbers and skill mix of staff for the dependency level of the service users being cared for.

Liaise with management.

Ensure adequate provision and maintenance of equipment and resources.

Professional

Adhere to Benridge Care Group’s policies and procedures.

Carry out duties at all times with due regard to Benridge Care Group equal opportunities policy.

Be aware of the responsibility of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for service users, visitors and staff whilst you are on duty under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Ensure that duties are carried out to the highest possible standard whilst representing Benridge Care Group, to include additional duties required from time to time (within reason).

All staff are required to respect the confidentiality of all matters that they might learn in the course of their employment. All staff are expected to respect the requirements under the Data Protection Act (1998).

Partake in quality assurance audits, inspections and training and development requirements.

Adhere to Benridge Care Groups uniform and hygiene code.

Ensure service users are treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve at all times.

Ensure that any safeguards are reported immediately and the relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.

Ensure any grievances or areas of concern are reported to the Manager within 24 hours of their occurrence. 

Educational

Ensure that care given reflects current research findings through the development of your own personal knowledge base. 

Provide support and leadership to junior members of the team.

Undertake professional development activities, to include self appraisals and performance reviews.

Adhere and partake in mandatory and any further training requirements as specified by Benridge Care Group
