This position will be a 7am start.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF POST:
To act as a member of the staff team of the Home, as directed by Management Team / Owner(s), ensuring that domestic duties (of whatever nature) are undertaken to the highest possible standards, and working in accordance with Benridge Care Homes Ltd. established principles, practices and procedures, and the National Code of Conduct.
DUTIES: N.B. Specific tasks to be performed may be identified in the staff documents file or on staff notices / posters around the home, and/or may be agreed with individual staff from time to time.
Maintaining the Environment:
Under the direction of the management team, to undertake domestic duties to ensure a clean, warm, well-served environment for Service Users.
To recognise that you may become aware of information about Service Users and that this needs to be treated with total confidentiality.
To recognise that Service Users may wish to talk with you, and to provide appropriate response, without losing sight of your duties.
To recognise that Service Users should be able to lead a normal life, taking normal risks (providing, of course, that this does not endanger others), and not necessarily to rush to intervene or help unless evidently dangerous. To be aware also of risk assessments undertaken, both about physical aspects of the Home and about Service Users, and to adhere to any instructions they contain.
To remember always the need to pass on observations, concerns, etc. about the Service Users to members of the management team.
To be aware of the importance of relatives and friends of Service Users, and to ensure that these are welcomed.
To recognise and respect the value of personal property to Service Users, to handle same ONLYwith the Service User's permission, and to take the utmost care.
To recognise at all times the need to maintain as "homely" and "non-institutional" atmosphere as possible, notwithstanding the need to maintain the highest possible standards.
At all times, to safeguard against cross-infection and ensure work is conducted hygienically, and in particular to ensure total hygiene if transferring between different work activities.
To recognise that this employment involves essential teamwork and be prepared, with willing good humour, to be a full member of the team.
To be accountable to and accept direction from members of the management team in the duties to be performed.
To be involved in decisions relating to the operation of the Home.
To be aware of the needs and benefits of continuing learning and training, and in discussion with the management team, to ensure that all possible opportunities are taken. Also to be aware of the need for appropriate training for the tasks required, and to discuss this with the management team where necessary.
At all times, to ensure the maintenance of a safe environment.
To adhere to the policies, principles and practices of the Home.
To ensure open and effective channels of communication/information.
To channel grievances to members of the management team, without delay. Also, to be aware of the importance of the “whistle-blowing” policy, in ensuring the maintenance of proper standards and care, and that all staff have a duty to bring bad practice to the attention of members of the management team, or the registered manager, or the personnel officer, or the owner, or the Commission for Social Care Inspection, as appropriate and relevant.
To attend staff meetings and be prepared to contribute to discussion.
To be subject to performance reviews, recognising the positive aspects of such reviews, and that you have the opportunity of making your own written contribution to the subsequent record.
To work to the highest possible standards of good practice.
To be aware of the possibility of abuse of Service Users by staff, to recognise the duty to report such abuse or the suspicion of it, to understand that any such allegation must be investigated rigorously, and to recognise that this may involve use of the disciplinary procedure and dismissal if reasonably believed to have taken place.
To recognise that appropriate administrative and management processes are essential to maintain the required environment for Service Users.
To be aware that it is quality of provision, primarily, which will ensure high occupancy, and that there is an inter-relationship of occupancy with the financial viability of the Home.
To be party to the establishment of principles, procedures, and practices for the Home, and to ensure the maintenance of these.
